In August 2015, multiple award-winning brewer and publican duo Paddy O’Riordan and Olly Bainbridge joined forces and launched a brand new brewery in Exmouth. With the beer initially produced through “cuckoo” brewing (using spare capacity in an existing brewery), this was the first step towards opening a part-crowdfunded 6 barrel brewery in The Grapevine’s old stables in Exmouth town centre in October 2016.
Crossed Anchors Brewing launched their finely crafted first beers at The Grapevine’s 2015 beer festival in Exmouth on August Bank Holiday weekend. The brewery won four Taste of the West Gold Awards in 2017 and are now stocked in many local drinking establishments and farm shops.
New beers are continually being hand-crafted so make sure you ask for an update when you visit us.
Below is a selection of the beers from the brewery.

Three Cs Gold – 4.3% ABV; IBU 44
Our year-round golden ale is already proving hugely popular, it is beautifully light in colour from the Pale and Vienna malts, bittered with Chinook and Challenger hops then massively dry-hopped with Cascade. Pale golden in colour and easy drinking, well balanced and full of flavour.
We have brewed this lovely hoppy beer many times now and it always very popular. Light easy drinking and full of hoppy finish. this beer is a regulars favourite and our most popular beer.
Red Right Hand – 4.6 % ABV; IBU 44
This is a tweaked version of our American Pale Ale: we made it red for autumn! Malty character, yet with a fruity, citrusy and impressive American hop finish. Hugely popular, a nice way to transition from summer into winter.
As the name suggests this beer is a great red American style ale. Loads of character it really encapsulates the modern style of the brewery allied with the traditional brewers skill.
Exe Porter - 4.5% ABV; IBU 35
Our smooth sailing porter, slips down easily, dark as you like, with a creamy, lingering head... we could go on, but you've got to just try it.
My personal favourite, a great easy drinking dark Porter that just sails down the the throat. Clean malty taste and smooth dry finish this beer is a champion and we expect it to do well in the up-coming beer festivals.
AMERICAN PALE ALE – 4.6% ABV; IBU 44
This is our session American Pale Ale: fruity, citrusy and hoppy, this is the beer that our customers keep asking for, an instant hit, and has become one of our core range.
C.S.H - 3.8% ABV; IBU 18
Our amazing session beer, C.S.H stands for ‘Cascade SMASH Hopburst’ and SMASH is an acronym for ‘single malt and single hop’. Hopbursting is the technique of adding hops only in the last few minutes of the boil resulting in a less bitter, but amazing aroma-filled beer.
Weisse Guy - 5.0% ABV; IBU 15
Our take on a traditional South German Hefeweizen. Don’t let the hazy nature of the beer put you off, it tastes amazing. This beer isn't about the hops for a change, this is all about the yeast (hefe) and the wheat (weizen).
Crossed Anchors Brewery submitted and won Four Taste of the West Gold Awards in 2017.
